Night Falls in India tells the story of Ricardo (Juan Diego) and Dana (Clara voda). Ricardo decides to travel overland to India, as he used to do in the old days, when he brought hippies to the East with his van, crossing Europe, Turkey, Iran and Pakistan. But the situation is very different now. Ricardo has been in a wheelchair for the last ten years, suffering from a degenerative disease now in its final stage. He wants to die on the banks of the Ganges River and meet Gadhali again. In this journey, he is accompanied by Dana, his Rumanian housekeeper. Life owes something to these two lonely beings. The journey will become the alibi for paying it off. Night Falls in India is a shining road-movie full of life that uses journey as an excuse to tell a story about love and the passing of time, about the importance of the present and the need to recover lost time; a story in which the journey itself is as important as the arrival.

It is a great film by a great director.Kira Muratova has never been given her due in the Soviet and post-Soviet Russia.In the Long Good Bye she depicts a seemingly banal story of a jealous and possessive mother (brilliantly acted by Zinaida Sharko) and her poor aloof and lonely son (the only cinematic role by the talented O. Vladimirsky). The story - which is nothing extraordinary in itself - grows into the wonderful and frightening analysis of alienation between genders and generations on the background of the even more frighteningly bleak and dehumanized Soviet reality.Kira Muratova shows the tiny details of everyday Soviet life,and, again , banal as they are ,they are a hair-raising horror.The dialogue is deliberately laconic and void of any sense, showing the ever-growing people's inability to communicate and understand each other.The sound track ( by another under-estimated talent, Oleg Karavaichuk)adds to the atmosphere of hopeless and meaningless existence.Of course,Sasha (the name of the protagonist),will leave his despotic ( but loving!) mother sooner or later, but where for (c)

Fluent in ten languages including two dead ones, Julie Walters, considered the brightest mind in the Department, is just months away from obtaining a Ph.D. in Ancient Languages, after which she hopes to get a job at the Museum of Natural History, where she's wanted to work since she was a child. Her path hits a roadblock when she is informed that all funding has been pulled from the Department for student services, including employment and financing, her sole sources of education funding. With no museum jobs to be had which would be her first choice as a replacement, Julie decides to offer private language lessons instead. Her first students, seniors couple Rose and Earl Williams, decide to buy French lessons for their son Dan, who is in a long distance relationship with a Parisienne, Cosette, they solely communicating in their common language of English. Upon first sight, Julie discovers her new student is one of the assistant curators at the museum with who she had earlier had a somewhat awkward discussion regarding she potentially working there. Busy Dan, reluctant to enter into the lessons, is more practical than romantic in his relationships, he dealing with Cosette solely in those areas common to the two of them, namely in English and around museums, she who works at one in Paris, which is how they originally met. In believing one learns better if it applies to them, Julie ends up also coaching Dan in how to be more romantic in how it would apply to Cosette, he eventually discovering that she would like him to exhibit that side of himself to her. As Julie starts to fall for Dan, and it seems he for her, their path forward may hit the further roadblocks of Cosette, and of her goal of working at the museum.—Huggo
